Cheese of the month - 20% off throughout September - Mayfield from Alsop & Walker in East Sussex

The British version of Emmental, made form cows' milk and aged for 5-7 months. This firm, golden cheese has oval shaped holes throughout and has a soft, sweet, fruity flavor. A wonderful cheese for melting and snacking. Kids love this cheese!

Mo and Town Mill's Pain de Campagne

New in the shops - Town Mill's Pain de Campagne

It really is bloody good and makes the best toast ever. A real pain levain made from rye, white and wholemeal flour, and a chunk of yesterday's dough to get the 36 hour proving process going. It comes in a massive 3.5kg loaf and is available whole (£7.95), in halves (£4.00) and quarters (£2.00) and it keeps, and improves, for days.

Booze news ...
We are holding Vintage Roots wine tasting at Riverford, Staverton on Friday 24th September from 4 - 8.30pm. Costs £5 to include Riverford nibbles; if you buy a case of wine we will give you your fiver back and if not we will donate it to charity.
Vintage Roots are, without doubt, the UK’s number one independent organic wine merchants. Typically, I have had my ups and downs with them over the years but things are good now. They do their own label range of cheap(ish) wines but it is in the middle range (£8-£12) that they really come into their own with the offerings of producers like James Millton (New Zealand), Jean Bousquet (Argentina) and Albet-i-Noya (Spain). The tasting will concentrate on these wines - mainly reds.

News about Kitley goes to Plymouth Flavour Fest

Kitley sausage-making reached giddy heights over the weekend of 13-15 August at the Plymouth Flavour Fest when Andy made 450kg sausages, Laura cooked 70kg chipolatas as tasters and a half a tonne were sold!

Hats off to the team from Kitley who worked so hard to keep the sausages coming.

It must be summer because, long standing friend of Riverford, Penny Hemming is back on stream with her flowers. Grown just up the Dart Valley at Caddaford, they cheer me up every time I come to work. It’s the beginning of the season so there will be more to come...
